The ATC Chess Team is open to all students at ATC, 7th through 12th grade. The team meets every Tuesday afternoon from the end of school to 5:00pm. In order to attend tournaments, students will need to consistently attend the after school meets.

The team attends several tournaments throughout the year, including three Northern Schools Chess League Tournaments, as well as a District Competition, and a State Competition. There are also more casual events set up between schools which are announced to participants when scheduled. Students are not required to attend tournaments, but are strongly encouraged to do so. These are team tournaments. At tournaments, each student is placed on one of ATC's High School or Middle School A. B, or C teams, depending on age and estimated strength.

Students are strongly encouraged to purchase their own chess set, if they do not already own one. Sets may be purchased from Andy Nowak, the NSCL Director, at the various tournament we attend over the year. A basic set, board, and bag $11.00. There are also more expensive sets, as well as clocks and other accessories, but for most students the basic set is sufficient.
