Advanced Marimba

Course Number:
1126

Students learn and perform more challenging traditional and contemporary Marimba compositions with an emphasis on the music of Zimbabwe. Through playing as an ensemble, students learn about rhythm, listening, group dynamics, improvisation, and music theory while learning about the music of other cultures. Players of drums, guitar, bass, and horns are encouraged to join the class, as we will create additional parts for these instruments wherever possible. The class will perform publically at least twice during the year. Prerequisite: Beginning Marimba or teacher permission.
