Acoustic Americana 2

Course Number:
1126

Students continue to study various styles of traditional American folk music including old-time Appalachian string band music, blues, traditional New Mexican, Cajun, bluegrass, and modern folk. We also study the history behind these styles through readings, videos, and recordings. The class will perform publicly at least twice throughout the year. Players of stringed instruments such as violin (we call it a fiddle), guitar, banjo, mandolin, cello, and bass (electric bass is okay) are encouraged to join. Other instruments are welcome as well, including (but not limited to) harmonica, piano and percussion. Students must have an acoustic instrument and at least some prior musical experience. This class is offered in conjunction with Acoustic Americana 1.
